Bob Hannah (2) and Roger DeCoster (104) launch off the line at the 1977 St. Peter’s (Mo.) Trans-AMA. At the time Hannah was the up-and-coming motocross racer in America – DeCoster already a five-time World Champion.
In this battle of motocross legends it was the veteran DeCoster racing his factory Suzuki to victory over Hannah, who took second on the factory Yamaha. In the end Roger D won the Trans-Am Series over The Hurricane. It marked DeCoster’s fourth-straight Trans-Am title. Hannah would go on to win the series in 1978.
Both riders are considered among the all-time greats in the sport.
